We work as Admin for Skegness CMHT, Older adults and S2C, all sharing one office in Skegness. We have worked throughout the pandemic, dividing our time between working at home and at base. The comraderie between teams has grown and we have all supported each other – cancelling leave, working flexibly etc to ensure no one was in the office on their own. I had my now 2 year old boy just before the pandemic started. Taking care of a baby without support from family was a very difficult time but we made it through. I extended my maternity leave and we used our savings to get by becuase I was terrified of coming back to work and passing covid onto my vulnerable partner. I started working for the Trust in mid-2020, a few months into the pandemic. Although I wasn't front line, a lot of my work was in supporting front line managers by providing the data and analyses needed for them to make the best decisions in a rapidly changing environment. I also was redeployed for a time to work in the stores after their hardworking team was hit by COVID, delivering supplies (including PPE) to all corners of Lincoln Hospital. At the start of the pandemic, the most difficult part was not the constant, exhausting, donning, doffing and cleaning, but being unable to see our loved ones. Splitting families apart for fear of bringing COVID into our homes and passing it on to vulnerable family members. When the site turned ’green/blue’ we were torn. I lost my wonderful husband very recently, just when we thought we were nearly through the pandemic untouched. We were already talking about planting a tree in the garden so this will be in memory of him.

I have only known working in the NHS through a pandemic and it has been hard. So busy, with insufficient resources or time. And so many of our patients passed away. It has been heartbreaking for all the wonderful caring staff I work with. My own uncle, Brian and his wife Anne passed away from COVID in 2021 and our family has been devastated. A story told throughout the country and across the world. My heart and my love are with everyone who lost someone precious. We really did and do our best…

To remember my father, who I did not see for the last 3 weeks of his life due to COVID, and to thank all the staff at Lincoln County for looking after him in his final weeks.

How the entire team pulled together, adapted and kept going throughout. Positivity and kindness shone through.

My memory would be the teamwork of all the teams pulling together and supporting each other and our patients through the lockdowns. Also the acceptance of the lockdowns and restrictions place on our mental health patients and the way they adapted.

Working on a colorectal and HDU unit, our working lives changed several times throughout the pandemic, initially seeing fewer elective surgeries and therefore supporting wards that were still inundated with patients requiring care. We soon became a ward that nursed COVID patients ourselves and what an eye-opening experience that came to be. It truly was the hardest and most heartbreaking time in my 15-year career. I started working at the hospital just before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived. From calm to panic and then everybody working together for a common cause, to get through this and come out of the other side stronger and beating this new enemy! I lost a loved one to COVID-19 so having a tree will be lovely to watch it grow and remember happier times.

Myself and my colleagues on Hatton Ward worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic. We treated all our patients as family because they couldn't see theirs.

Working on a COVID ward and supporting patients who recovered or sadly lost the fight against COVID.

From March 2020 to May 2021, I worked in the Intensive Care Unit, where we cared for many patients who had COVID. It felt like an age, waiting for the patients to become well enough to extubate if they ever did become well enough. I have struggled for the last year with the memories of the patients who couldn't have their families with them in their last few moments. A very dear friend in his early 50's, Ron, was taken poorly during the first wave of COVID-19. He assumed he had COVID, so did not visit his GP. He became increasing poorly across the weekend and later died of a pulmonary embolism. He is sadly missed and we will plant the tree in a special place in our garden.

I was involved with the COVID vaccination programme for 18 months, supporting the recovery from the Pandemic. I saw close up the dedication, commitment and hard work from everyone involved that went into making it a success. I will look on this tree with pride as it will remind me of my role and of the many others I have worked with in the largest and most successful vaccination programme, to date, in NHS history.

It was a scary, anxious and humbling time to be working in the NHS at the time the pandemic hit.
